Courtenay, BC, September 7, 2020 – Fatburger, the Canadian owned custom made burger restaurant, opened in Courtenay on September 3, 2020. BC restaurateur Frank Di Benedetto confirmed today that fans of Fatburger’s award-winning burgers are now able to indulge their taste buds at the Ryan Road location, the 3rd Fatburger to open on Vancouver Island.
“We are passionate about quality, food and service” said Mr. Di Benedetto. “We are excited to be serving great tasting Fatburger favourites, made fresh with top quality ingredients to the Courtenay community”
Frank Di Benedetto, BC Restaurant Hall of Fame Alumni and owner of Fatburger & Ricky’s All Day Grill, started Fatburger in Canada 15 years ago, with the vision of bringing home-style cooked burgers, made with traditional cooking methods, to local communities. Fatburger is acclaimed for serving up award winning burgers, hand breaded, fresh cooked chicken tenders, and hand scooped, real ice cream “best anywhere” milkshakes.
Fatburger Courtenay is adjacent to Ricky’s All Day Grill, which has been serving family favourites to the Courtenay community for over 26 years. Local Ricky’s Franchisees Darrel Crawford & Gary Marnewick own and operate the Fatburger as well.
What makes Fatburger so special? Premium Canadian ingredients. Each and every burger starts with fresh, never frozen Alberta Angus beef. No additives, binders or fillers. Only the freshest local produce, including hand-shredded lettuce and award-winning centre-cut beefsteak tomatoes, qualify to be served on a Fatburger.
Fatburger offers a wide selection of items on its menu for diverse tastes. To complement the burger selections are custom made veggie burgers, chicken sandwiches made with full-sized marinated chicken breasts, hand battered Chicken Tenders and Wings. For those seeking a low-carb, gluten friendly treat, Fatburger offers the option to “Lettuce Wrap” your burger or sandwich.

About Fatburger Canada: In 1947 Lovie Yancey founded Fatburger under its original name Mr. Fatburger. In 1952, Yancey shed both her business partners and the “Mr.” from the name of the hamburger stand, and Fatburger was officially born. From the beginning, Yancey was a fixture at the original Fatburger, where customers, who included entertainers such as Redd Foxx and Ray Charles, could custom-order their burgers.
In 2005, the first Fatburger Canada opened in the popular English Bay area of Vancouver, BC. And while our roots are from California, Fatburger in Canada is Canadian owned and operated – and proud of it! The company is actively seeking new franchisees across Canada.
